STARFIGHTER SUBORBITAL TRAINING – THE PROGRAM

Starfighter F-104  - Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Runway FacilityDay 1: (Monday)
The specialist team will receive you with an aviator's breakfast at Kennedy Space Center. In the briefing room you are introduced to the schedule of the next days, and then you get your personal flight equipment: fire-resistant underwear, flight overall, rescue kit, flight helmet and oxygen mask.

After the suit fitting, you learn in a special briefing the security regulations of KSC, before taking lunch in the NASA Exploration Park, together with your trainers.

For the following Flight Medical you have to show the documentary of your preliminary investigation at your hometown. You don't have to be an ironman, nevertheless you should dispose of a normal physical and health constitution.

Then in the barochamber you test your behavior under reduced atmospheric pressure, and with practical exercises you prove your physical fitness. Finally you are made acquainted with the psychological basics of aviation close, and in the late afternoon, when you receive your medical certificate, your first training day is accomplished.

Day 2: (Tuesday)
After the briefing about the day's schedule you are introduced in the 'Aircrew fitting equipment' to all details of your flight equipment. In the following 'Egress Systems / Ejection Seat' Training you learn the handling of the security equipment: use of the ejection seat, parachute training and exercises about water and land survival.

Today you have lunch in a cafeteria near the VAB (Vehicle Assembly Buildings); with some luck there you will see something inside.

In the afternoon you take a close look of the details of the NASA Shuttle Landing Facility. Then you meet your Starfighter F-104 for the first time: Your specialist and trainer explains the legendary jet in all particulars to you and provides information to all your questions.

In the backseat of the jet you are familiarized with cockpit, instruments and communication and security equipment. The rest of the training day is a theory again: 'F-104 Aircraft System Training' prepares you for the technology test of the coming day.

Day 3 (Wednesday)
In the morning you prepare again for the test in short focused briefings, then you pass the written multiple choice test. From possible 100 points you need at least 72; no problem after that intensive preparation.

Then after donning your flight suit and reviewing your equipment you concentrate on the preflight briefing with your pilot. And then it's ready, steady, go: after being transferred to the NASA Flight Line you take your seat in the Starfighter's cockpit and roll on the runway. The instructors team waves to you, then your pilot starts the afterburner, you get pressed in the seat, and up you go!

After your flight a reception in the NASA Shuttle Landing Facility has been prepared for you,, and you undergo the ritual aviator's procedure: after all you have flown aboard the Starfighter as one of only very few civilians!

At the Debriefing in the SLF you discuss your flight experience with the pilot and the Starfighter crew. In an official ceremony you receive your flight certificate and so become one of the first humans to carry the ' Suborbital Training Wings'. Then it's party time: you celebrate your flight with the crew and your personal guests.

Day 4 (Thursday)
As a finale of your flight adventure, you go on a specially arranged VIP tour through NASA Kennedy Space Center: you relive space history in the control room of the Apollo missions, exchange experiences with a real astronaut and visit the SaturnV lunar rocket of Wernher von Braun. If you return to your hotel in the evening, one of the most unusual adventures of our time comes to an end, and you know:
